INWELLE STUDY AND RESOURCE CENTRE

EMPOWER US TO EMPOWER OUR YOUTH

THE COMMUNITY WE SERVE

The parents in this community are too indigent to send their children to good secondary schools. These parents, mostly subsistent farmers and petty traders watch helplessly as their young children roam the streets and engage in nefarious activities or the children are frustrated as they take and retake qualifying exams to get into colleges. Because the schools in the rural areas are neglected, youths in the rural areas come out of these schools almost illiterates. They face a huge handicap as they are unable to face the steep competition to get into the colleges and lack skills that will prepare them to move to the next level of their lives. They also can not engage private tutors as the privileged youths can. The participatory academic boot camp is Inwelle Study and Resource Centre’s response to the situation.

SPONSOR INWELLE CENTRE ACADEMIC BOOT CAMP

We invite the general public to our Annual Fundraising. We will be fundraising to help Inwelle Study and Resource Centre, Enugu to carry out a participatory learning academic boot camp project in August, 2011. The recipients of the project will be 40 young boys and girls, aged 19 –23 transitioning from high school to gaining admission into higher institutions. To this effect, we appeal for your help in raising $50,000.00 this fundraising year to enable us employ tutors, house and feed these youths for the entire month of August. During this month, the tutors will coach the young people in academic subjects while the young people will be required to trade talents in their strong academic subjects — teaching each other what they know in preparation for JAMB and School Cert exams. They will also be taught computer skills and the use of library in preparation for their first year in college.

INWELLE ANNUAL SYMPOSIUM

This is held every December to close our project year. During this symposium, participants for the year received certificate of completion. Inwelle Centre Annual symposium selects themes that are aimed at sensitizing the community to the problems faced by at-risk youths, especially indigent girls and young adult women, and seeks solution by engaging members of the community in discussion

We appreciate any amount you donate towards it.

INWELLE VIRTUAL VILLAGE SQUARE PROJECT

Our Virtual Village Square project centers on the premise that lack of information and prejudices are the great divide among Nigerian youths. During the virtual village square project, we aim to use Village Squaretechnological tools and a common language, English, to bridge this divide. Inwelle Centre Youths will digitally capture visual images and recordings of a dozen oral stories and under the guidance of expert facilitators, lead the discussion on given social issues.

Our Virtual village Square Project, which will start August 2013, will involve out-of-school, disadvantaged youths in Nigeria with a larger audience, especially the Nigerian youths abroad, using folklore and oral histories as a springboard for deeper conversations about 21st century issues impacting their lives such as civic engagement, employment, education, health, and the economy. In 2009, we started building the necessary technology platform and the skills among the target population in Enugu, Nigeria, who will host and facilitate the virtual village square.

To support a youth to participate in the Virtual Village square costs $100.00.
